FORT SMITH ELECTRICAL JOINT APPRENTICESHIP AND TRAINING

Our JATC committee is composed of six members with considerable experience in the industry;
three from NECA, representing management and three from the IBEW Local Union 700 representing Labor.  This unique blend of committee members allows for a wide range of experience and foresight to be utilized in the forecasting of the apprenticeship program's present and future needs.

The Fort Smith Electrical JATC is a joint Labor-Management training program established by Local Union 700 of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) and the Arkansas Chapter of the National Electrical Contractors Association (NECA).

The committee interviews and selects apprentices in accordance with the standards of the Fort Smith Electrical Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee, approved by the US Department of Labor, Bureau of Apprenticeship and Training (US-DOL BAT) and the National Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee (NJATC).

The National Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee was established in 1941.  They oversee and develop our curriculum as well as offering training for our instructors.

Our primary purpose is to produce the best trained, most up-to-date electrical apprentices and journeymen in the country.

Local Union 700
The Fort Smith Electrical JATC 's Labor sponsor is the IBEW Local Union 700. 

Local 700 represents more than 380 members working in the electrical industry under the following agreements: Inside Agreement, Outside Agreement, Residential Agreement, Telecommunications, Outside Utility, SWEPCO and Manufacturing Agreements.

Their jurisdiction covers the following counties in Arkansas: Baxter, Benton, Boone, Carroll, Crawford, Franklin, Johnson, Logan, Madison, Marion, Newton, Pope, Scott, Searcy, Sebastian, Washington and Yell. In Oklahoma: Leflore County (Braden, Pocola and Spiro Townships only) and Sequoyah County - the portion east of Brent, Prices Chapel, Rocky Mountain and Sallisaw Townships.

Their goal in establishing the Fort Smith Electrical JATC is to provide a highly skilled workforce necessary to meet customer needs and ensure job satisfaction for electrical workers


The Arkansas Chapter of the National Electrical Contractors Association
The Fort Smith Electrical JATC's Management sponsor is the Arkansas Chapter of NECA.

The Arkansas Chapter of NECA was chartered in 1948 and represents electrical contractors in five divisions located in El Dorado, Fort Smith, Jonesboro, Little Rock, and Texarkana.  These contractors provide electrical construction and maintenance service to industrial, commercial, and residential customers, throughout the state.

They also provide employment and on-the-job training to the apprentices enrolled in the program, and journeymen members of the local union.
